This is part of a blogging event I created called My Monthly Memories with the initiative of allowing bloggers to document their lives over the course of a long time. I hope you consider participating yourself, several have already partaken last month and have told me it’s been great! If you’re interested, please check the instructions here.

February has been good to me. It was lovely having a break after my first semester finals and having some breathing space after a long five months. Birthday celebrations, a Holi Festival, familiar faces of the past, and binge watching The Office while having an actual office job made for a pretty incredible month.

After I found out that I’d passed all my exams, I decided I’d be having a birthday celebration in Germany before I headed back home to Saudi Arabia. It was sleepover themed because I’m still twelve at heart and unwinding with your friends in PJs is exactly how I wanted to celebrate. Popcorn, hot chocolate, some really well thought out gifts, and singing made for an unforgettable night. I think I’m going to remember everyone rapping the song Anaconda to a ukulele for a very, very long time.

Right after, I left the place I’d grown to call home to visit my parents in Saudi Arabia for the first time. My dad accompanied me to Germany for the first time and this meant I would be traveling completely alone for the first time. Though I thought it would be a journey full of panic attacks and anxiety, surprisingly enough I was fine the entire time, something to be really proud of! Seeing both my parents waving both their hands up high in the air after catching a glimpse of me for the first time really made my heart smile, this was the beginning of my time off in the place the most familiar to me.

It was lovely celebrating my actual birthday with parents, moments like these definitely put things into perspective considering I haven’t seen them in a long time. A few days after, I visited my high school and met up with my old teachers and underclassmen. It was surely really weird being their without the rest of my class, kind of lonely actually. Seeing this year’s senior class, I could distantly hear the murmurs of my own class shouting “SENIORS!” and clapping. I was surprised that a lot of students and teachers were in a neighboring school for another MUN conference. I thought I would surprise them once more by being there just as I did in the Netherlands. “You love popping up, don’t you?” Yes, yes I do.

My school also had a carnival while I was there and it included a Holi Festival (colorful powder galore). The seniors this year did not spare me..

I spent the rest of my break interning an office job at a school my mom worked in, we had lunch together everyday and it was sublime having something to distract me from the horrors of the upcoming semester as well as me self-studying German. I thought this was really funny considering I was binge watching The Office all through working.

I am to go back to Germany in a few days and I’m honestly going to miss forcing hugs on my dog and the familiarity of the place. Look forward to (hopefully) a future traveling tale as well as more adventure!

  4. I love your idea! This is a great way to recapitulate some good times and boost yourself. What’s awesome is, when you engage readers in such articles, one tends to make images of one’s own, and soon the reader becomes a writer of sorts. Keep up the good work!
